Oh, god, that’s awful - can’t/won’t even click on the link. RIP.

Yes, didn’t even have anything sarcastic to say, just awful.

Yeesh, also, its why helicopters fly with these. Wonder if it would be feasible to add something like it to a helmet.

I don’t think there are any measures to prevent the cruel, random whims of the divine plan.

Hm, I never noticed - presume those (other than on the skids) are sharp to cut?

My reaction, too - I love snark as much as anyone, but it sounds like this guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and did nothing wrong. Sad.

Ah ha - that video really shows the detail well. Power line patrol flying is no joke - and most helicopters tend to stay low to the ground, unlike airplanes. Cool system—

it really is. I mean it sucks if its a power line or something but easier to repair a busted line than to clean up a helicopter crash.

The crash would probably take the lines out anyways- - -and peoples’ lives >>> electricity. I’d happily pay the bill if it saved my butt.

RIP, Mr. Zepeda.
Could something nice happen in San Bernardino again for a change!?

Oh wow. Sounds like headless horseman business. Poor guy.

All things considered, this sounds like a trillion:one chance... And I dont think that system would exactly work anyway, because the forces would just snap your neck.
![]() 04/13/2017 at 14:29 |

maybe. I was thinking just a strike bar or something that would knock you off your bike and hurt like hell but keep you alive.

When I first moved to a small town, I was warned about the headless motorcyclist that haunted the local bridge that I had to cross every day. The story was that he was decapitated by a sign that was bent across the road from a wreck that had happened shortly before he came by. My reaction?Haha, great story, guys. I always looked for him, but never saw the ghost.
Years later, I met a fellow at college that was familiar with my town. It seems his uncle was decapitated by a street sign near a bridge....

Wow, creepy! And sad.

Huh. That makes so much more sense now. I always thought those were antennas. Neat!

When I was out flying with the lifeflight guys I asked about that. They get used apparently. Now granted the REAL scary stuff is hovering around lines and getting one in the tail rotor. Thats happened once out here.

ouch.
poor guy.
